Prior to the publication of this study, Nigeria was thought to have 100 hippos. Then researchers located an “unknown” population of 50+ hippos living in a dam right next to a group of villages.

As a dog sitter and biologist, I was concerned about the “return to normal” and the implications for dog welfare. In this article, you can find the symptoms associated with separation anxiety and tips on how to deal with it.

Science has many rules, and the science of naming creatures is not an exception. I wrote about the species that contend for the title of “first mammal of 2021”.

I also wrote about the situation of environmental activists in the region where one of those species had been named, Tibet.

Researchers tested whether Asian elephants will collaborate and under which circumstances. Turns out, if food is easily monopolizable, elephants will do so and cooperation will break.

We know a fair bit about toxoplasmosis infections in humans and in cats. But we know very little about what happens when wild animals catch this parasite which can change a creature’s behaviour!
